Castle / one Picture
ref CR1 The
tower house was built in the 1550s and finished in 1596 .
Later on a Queen Anne wing was added in the early 1700s and
a Victorian wing . In 1966 both were burned down and only
the Queen Anne wing was rebuilt . The jewelled ivory horn
hanging in the hall was a gift from Robert
the Bruce
in the 1300s . Crathes Castle has walled gardens and the
grounds are quite extensive with nature trails up to 4 miles
long . The
castle is a National Trust property and it is on the A93
east of Banchory , about 15 miles from Aberdeen . PHOTO
GUIDE The castle
is a short walk from the car park . A 35mm lens is
sufficient to photograph the castle . I used a 100 to 300 mm
