Knoppenburg Manor in Belgium

laird of Traquair has been fined £100 and her
licence endorsed after she admitted driving with
children unrestrained in her car. Lady Catherine
Maxwell-Stuart, 41, described in court as a brewery
manager, was tailed by police in Innerleithen on 24
April. They saw a five-year-old child sticking his
head out of the window and found another in the
back with no seatbelt. She was given three penalty
points and fined at Peebles Sheriff Court. The
mother-of-three was excused attendance at court
because of childcare duties during the school
holidays - but admitted she was in the wrong.
Deeply embarrassed Her defence agent Mark Harrower
told court she was driving slowly because she was
looking for local football training. He added that
the Holyrood Labour parliamentary candidate was
deeply embarrassed about the incident which
happened on a seatbelt awareness day. He said it
was the first time she had ever been in trouble
with the police. Lady Maxwell-Stuart became the
21st
Laird of
Traquair
following the death of her father in 1990. She took
over the running of Traquair House - described as
Scotland's oldest continually inhabited house -
dating back to 1107. .
